MP welcomes progress for Mourne Hospital Site

South Down MP Eddie McGrady has welcomed the progress in providing a social housing scheme at the former Mourne Hospital Site.

Mr McGrady stated, “I have made representations to Housing Executive Headquarters and understand that a 12 unit supported housing scheme for the elderly has been identified for the site. In addition, the Housing Executive is looking at a proposal for a small number (6-8 units) of general needs social housing in conjunction with the proposed supported housing. I would hope that this scheme could also include housing units for vulnerable adults in the Kilkeel and Mourne area, and I will be raising this matter again with the relevant authorities.

The proposed schemes are being added to the Social Housing Development Programme for 2011/12, and it is extremely gratifying that a project of this nature will be provided on the former hospital site for the benefit of those in housing need.”
