Speaking after the announcement that by Minister Margaret Ritchie that the Department for Social Development will provided £500,000 for a public realm/street improvements scheme at Queens Street Warrenpoint the MP for the area said;

“This work, which I understand is scheduled to start in January 2009 and be completed by March 2009 in partnership with Newry & Mourne council, will give a much needed facelift to Queens Street area, with the provision of under grounding of cables; the upgrading of footpaths and increased lighting in Queen Street.

This street upgrade will greatly compliment the work at that will be undertaken along the seafront, which was also announced recently by the Minister of Social Development.

I look forward to the completion of these schemes and the benefits they will bring to the local community and the tourism economy in the area.
