Ballyhornan Family Centre – First of Many Successes

Speaking after the official opening of the Ballyhornan Family Centre the MP for South Down who officially opened the centre said;

“This Family Centre is the culmination of many years hard work and dedication by the Ballyhornan community, hard work in pursuit of an improved environment and services for their community.

Many years ago I became involved with the Community Association and despite the many set backs along the way and the huge uphill struggle they have faced, they never gave up trying. A testament to their commitment is shown by the long service that many of the committee members have given to the Association.

While I am aware of the work that is yet to be done, I would remind the Association that from a generational perspective they have already made a large impact on the future prospects of this area. Many projects are awaited and some projects are in progress, and we will continue to pursue these on a daily basis.

However, today is about the first of many successes. Today is about the creation of a centre point for the community, a place of identity, a place of common interest, a place to be shared by the community, and a place to provide for the communities needs.

I hope that this centre will be the catalyst that will drive not only outside agencies interest and response to the needs of Ballyhornan, but that it will be a catalyst for the community as they continue on their development path over the coming years.”
